In Atami, a hot-spring break can last ten minutes or half a day. Beside the station is Ieyasu-no-yu, a municipal footbath for relaxing while waiting for transport; on the bay, Ocean Spa Fuua brings hot-spring baths, sea-view bathing, saunas and lounges together under one roof. The decision is less about which place is “better” than about your available time, budget, entry rules and the facilities operating that day.
Fuua is the choice if bathing is the main activity: it opens from 10 am to 10 pm, with last entry at 9 pm, and admission includes towels and a robe. The weekday adult price starts at ¥3,080 plus bath tax; weekends, public holidays and special days carry a surcharge. A free shuttle connects the spa with Atami Station, but it is not a quick stop you can squeeze in on foot between trains. People with tattoos or body art are not admitted, and further rules apply to children.
Ieyasu-no-yu is free and stands beside the station exit; it is open from 9 am to 4 pm. The city warns that the water may cool in the afternoon as the flow decreases. It is practical before a beach visit or while waiting for a train, although it can fill up and has limited seating. It does not offer showers, lockers or the facilities found at Fuua: this is a short foot soak, not a full bathhouse. Bring a towel or buy one from the city’s vending machine.
There is an important temporary caveat for readers using this guide in October 2026: Fuua’s panoramic sauna is under renovation until mid-December, and the free-flowing outdoor bath is closed through 16 October, although the operator says other listed baths remain open. For a scenic, longer rest, check the operating list; for a short free stop, choose the station footbath. Travelling with children, having tattoos or needing specific accessibility arrangements are further reasons to check each venue’s official rules first.
