In Ames, “car wash” can mean a touchless machine, a bay where you control soap and pressure, a conveyor tunnel, or a hand wash followed by interior and paint work. Those differences matter when road salt, dust, pet hair or an older vehicle sets the task. Wild Water puts several wash types and a pet station at one Clark Avenue address; Varsity’s Lincoln Way branch is an express tunnel with a four-step menu and free finish-area tools; Success Auto Wash & Detail is appointment-oriented and specializes in deeper cleaning, paint care and hand washing. The three profiles below represent separate addresses and distinct service models.
One Clark Avenue stop for a car, a larger vehicle or a pet
Wild Water Car Wash & Pet Wash at 204 Clark Ave. keeps its car-wash facilities open around the clock. The site lists two touchless LaserWash automatics, seven self-serve bays, a large-vehicle bay, two self-serve pet tubs, four dual-speed vacuums with shampoo and fragrance, and two carpet-mat cleaners. Self-serve bays start at $4 for four minutes; the large-vehicle bay starts at $10 for ten minutes. The touchless automatic starts at $10, and the pet wash is $10 for eight minutes, open 6 a.m.–10 p.m. Customers who prefer to work at their own pace can use cash, card or a prepaid WashCard; the site also offers separate memberships for automatic, self-serve and pet-wash options. Customer comments often point to the touchless choice, equipment variety and all-hour access.
A predictable express menu at Varsity’s Lincoln Way branch
Varsity Carwash at 3705 Lincoln Way is open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m.–7 p.m., and Sunday, noon–6 p.m. Its posted single-wash ladder is Clean ($10), Protect ($15), Shine ($20) and MVP ($22). Moving up adds treatments including underbody rinse, clear-coat sealant, triple foam, wheel cleaner, tire shine and additional finish products. Free vacuums, microfiber towels, cleaning sprays and compressed air are available with every wash. Monthly plans are $25, $35, $40 and $45, respectively; the menu lists a $5 lower monthly rate for a second vehicle on each tier. Memberships are recurring, redeemable once per day and valid at both Ames branches. Customers often value the free finish-area supplies and staff pre-spray, making this a quick exterior wash with tools to continue cleaning on your own.
Book the work that goes beyond a tunnel wash
Success Auto Wash & Detail at 608 Douglas Ave. is the appointment-based choice for interior and exterior detailing rather than an unlimited conveyor plan. Its services include hand washes, shampoo extraction and steam cleaning, stain and biohazard cleanup, ceramic coatings, headlight restoration, ozone treatment, paint restoration and scratch removal, sanitizing, and commercial or fleet rates. The owner’s site asks customers to call for current prices and availability; the public schedule lists Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., with Sunday closed. Recent customers describe an interior refresh and headlight restoration on an older pickup, plus professional communication and same-day return. If your need is a stain, odor, dulled light or paint defect, call first with the vehicle and issue so the shop can confirm time and price.
Match the location to the cleaning job
- Wash at night, clean a pet or handle a larger vehicle: Wild Water combines 24-hour car facilities with a separately timed pet wash and large-vehicle bay.
- Choose a quick exterior package and finish the cabin yourself: Varsity lists a clear single-wash price ladder and free vacuums and supplies at Lincoln Way.
- Address interior buildup, paint or headlight issues: Success lists hand washing and detail services by appointment; call for a current estimate.
The three locations serve different routines: Wild Water is built around equipment choice and flexible access; Varsity offers an express wash with several protection levels and a repeat-use membership; Success focuses on work that takes longer and benefits from explaining the vehicle’s condition before booking. A monthly pass is useful only if its daily limits, vehicle rules and branch coverage fit how you drive. For a one-time clean, compare the entry price with what is included; for detailing, contact the shop before arriving rather than assuming it is a drive-through service. Prices and hours can change, so confirm current details with the linked business page or by phone.
