About Max Cekot Kitchen
Max Cekot Kitchen, Michelin-starred fine dining in Riga
Max Cekot Kitchen is a fine dining restaurant located in Riga and recognized, according to its own presentation, as the first establishment in Latvia to receive a Michelin star. It opened its doors in 2018 under the direction of its founder and chef, Max Cekot, whose signature cuisine combines creativity, craftsmanship and emotion in every detail.
A fifteen-course tasting menu
The culinary offering revolves around a seasonal 15-course tasting menu served three evenings a week. The menu relies on local ingredients selected to reflect the flavors of the region, and can be accompanied, at the diner's choice, by a selection of wines or by house-made non-alcoholic drinks, in both cases chosen by the restaurant's sommelier. A vegetarian menu option is also available.
The restaurant's catalog indicates that new dishes are added every three weeks and that the entire tasting menu is renewed every two months. During the evening, diners can watch the work in the open kitchen and hear explanations from the team about each dish and the locally sourced ingredients that make it up.
The building and the journey through its three floors
The restaurant occupies a century-old brick building that once operated as a wood processing factory, in an industrial area of the city, far from the Old Town. The team has restored the space while preserving elements such as the historic spiral staircase and incorporating live pines, among other details.
The venue is spread across three floors conceived as a journey: on the first, guests are welcomed and the opening dishes are served; the second hosts the main development of the dinner in an intimate setting. The company notes that the interior was designed by local artisans and includes elements such as a blue line crossing the wooden community table or lava motifs on the plates.
Its own garden and experimentation with producers
The restaurant has its own outdoor garden that the kitchen team itself cultivates from early spring until late autumn. This hands-on work allows fresh herbs, flowers and cresses to be incorporated into the dishes. Together with experts and farmers, the team experiments with different growing techniques and observes the development of each variety, a task that feeds ideas for the seasonal menu and for the vegetarian recipes.
