About Imayo Tsukasa Sake Brewery

Founded in 1767, Imayo Tsukasa is one of Niigata’s historic breweries and describes itself as the brewery closest to the main station. The tour enters an operating facility: tools, working spaces and explanations of the brewing stages make sake feel less like an abstract label and more like a craft shaped by the prefecture’s snow, rice and water. The shop carries a range of the brewery’s own labels and opens daily apart from the New Year break.

The guided visit lasts about 30 minutes and requires a reservation. The Japanese-language tour costs ¥200 per adult; an English-guided tour is available at 2 pm on weekdays for ¥550. The brewery offers tastings and explains its products in the shop, but confirm what is available and under what conditions when booking. Public feedback often praises the guide’s clear explanations, the concise tour and the tasting afterwards; some travellers would like more English-tour times and describe the visit as focused rather than a large museum. The brewery also reminds visitors that drink-driving is illegal.

From Niigata Station’s Bandai Exit, the brewery is about a 15-minute walk. A seven-minute bus ride to Nuttari Hakusan followed by a three-minute walk is another option. The shop opens from 9 am to 5 pm, and tours do not run from 31 December to 3 January. There is only one English tour time on weekdays, so reserve before buying a train ticket. It suits travellers who want to understand the process and local history; Ponshukan beside the station serves a different purpose if the priority is sampling a range of labels without a separate trip.
