About Kobe Beef Steak Restaurant Mouriya Honten

Mouriya Honten makes Kobe beef a measured meal: diners sit by the teppan and watch each cut being prepared. The restaurant dates its beginnings to 1885 and now serves as the flagship of a group with several locations. The experience is not simply a matter of ordering a steak; the cut, grade and portion size shape both the flavour and the bill. It helps to set a budget before opening the menu.

The official menu distinguishes certified Kobe beef from beef selected by Mouriya, an important difference when comparing prices. Its current lunch menu lists a 120-gram round cut of Kobe beef from ¥8,020, while A5 rib-eye and fillet cuts can cost considerably more. Set menus include accompaniments, and the restaurant offers lunch and dinner courses. Chefs cook in front of diners; the 50 seats are spread over three floors, with both tables and counter seating.

Diners often mention the tender texture, precise cooking and pleasure of watching the chef work; many also describe the meal as expensive. The distinction between “Kobe beef” and Mouriya’s own selected beef is more than a marketing detail: it gives guests ways to try local beef at different price levels. For a first visit, checking the portion sizes and which cuts are included in each set is more useful than choosing by the A5 label alone.

The restaurant is at 2-1-17 Shimoyamatedori, a five-minute walk from the west exit of JR Sannomiya Station; the West 1 exit of the Sannomiya subway station is directly opposite. It serves 11 am–10 pm, with last orders at 9 pm, although the official site publishes closing days that can vary. It fits easily into a day around Ikuta Shrine, Sannomiya’s shopping streets or a walk towards Kitano. For groups and busy meal times, check availability and book through the official channel.
