About Ichinoyu Onsen
Ichinoyu’s façade, with a silhouette reminiscent of a traditional theatre, stands out among Kinosaki’s timber buildings and lantern-lit streets. The bathhouse sits beside the canal and makes a natural stop on a walking route through town. The tradition of visiting public baths shares the streets with hotels and ryokan: guests enter with a pass or single ticket, change in gender-separated facilities and follow a few simple rules of respect.
Its signature feature is an outdoor pool built to resemble a rocky cave, alongside indoor baths. That combination lets visitors compare temperatures and atmosphere in one visit. Single entry is ¥800 for adults and ¥400 for children. Toyooka’s tourism office lists hours of 7 am–11 pm, with last entry at 10:40 pm; Wednesdays are the usual closing day except public holidays. The ¥1,500 Yumepa day pass covers public bathhouses that are open, but check which facilities are operating because temporary closures occur.
Visitors often recommend the cave bath and distinctive architecture. Several find the indoor water very hot, while the outdoor cave feels cooler and quieter. The bath can be busy at peak times, and towels may not be included, so bring a small one. As in other public baths, bathing is nude and towels stay out of the water. The experience is more rewarding if you try both indoor and outdoor areas rather than treating the visit as a quick wash.
The address is 415-1 Kinosakicho Yushima in the centre of the hot-spring town; the official phone number is +81 796-32-2229. Bathing ends before closing, so leave time to change and soak. The town’s bathhouses are walkable, and bridges over the canal lead onward to shops and ryokan. Choose Ichinoyu for architecture and a cave bath; Goshonoyu has a more open outdoor area with greenery and a waterfall.
Outdoor cave bath and indoor pools; normally closed on Wednesdays.
