Consulate-General of Japan in Milan
Milan accepts visa applications without an appointment, but only from residents of its eight regions; people travelling from farther away should contact the post first.
About Consulate-General of Japan in Milan
Japan’s Milan Consulate-General serves eight regions: Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria, Aosta Valley, Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna. The Embassy of Japan in Rome covers the rest of Italy. For a visa, applicants must reside in the district and hold valid Italian permission to stay; being in Milan as a visitor is not enough.
Visa applications do not require an appointment, but applicants must appear in person with a complete file. The office accepts neither mailed nor proxy applications. Its guidance sets a minimum of five working days from the day after receipt and says there is no priority service. It recommends applying about 40 days before travel and no earlier than three months ahead. Residents of remote areas are asked to contact the consulate first to confirm requirements and avoid unnecessary journeys.
For Japanese residents, the service menu includes passports, certificates, family-register procedures, nationality matters, overseas voting and outreach services. Each form’s page sets its own documents and requirements; online application is available for selected consular procedures. The profile organizes these categories and official contacts, while the guide explains territorial eligibility and how to plan around residence.
The user entrance is at number 4, Via Privata Cesare Mangili 2/4. Official directions identify the M3 Turati metro station and nearby bus and tram routes. The office is in a historic building without step-free access, so visitors needing accessible entry should contact it in advance. Counter hours are 9:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. and 1:30–4:30 p.m.; residents outside Lombardy should enquire before travelling. The consulate identifies Koji Yagi as consul-general.
