About Hotel Emilia

Hotel Emilia stands on the Portonovo hillside, amid the green landscape of the Conero and away from Ancona’s urban centre. The hotel says its story is tied to Emilia, the family’s grandmother, who inspired the building in 1964; the family had already run a restaurant on Portonovo beach since 1929. That history helps explain why the property presents itself as a family-rooted nature retreat rather than a simple city hotel.

The property brings together 34 rooms, suites, a 27,000-square-metre private park, a 12-by-24-metre panoramic pool, an olive grove, a terrace and restaurant, as well as the informal Gazebo space. Its cooking is rooted in produce and flavours from the Marche. Portonovo beach lies below, in a bay of pebbles and stones, with the church of Santa Maria, small brackish lakes, Torre de Bosis and Fortino Napoleonico among the landmarks. The hotel-to-beach shuttle may operate seasonally, so do not assume it runs throughout the year.

Public comments repeatedly mention Adriatic views, the pool, generous breakfast, spacious rooms and attentive staff; some criticism concerns slow restaurant service or evening dishes that did not satisfy every guest. The review page consulted reproduced a Google score of 4.5/5 from 678 opinions for Hotel Emilia on 11 October 2026. Its four-star classification is official and separate from that score. Confirm whether the pool, beach access, restaurant and shuttle will be available on your dates.

The address is 149/A Via Collina di Portonovo. The tourism office says Portonovo is linked with Ancona by seasonal bus and with a shuttle from the upper car park to the small piazza; an approximately 11-kilometre walking and cycling route also links the city and bay, with hills. This is not the easiest base for exploring the old town on foot or catching an early ferry. It is, however, a choice for a seaside break by the Conero park; Grand Hotel Palace is more convenient for monuments, the station and the port.
