About Imagine Broadband
Imagine Broadband: Fibre and 5G with Wi-Fi 7 in Ireland
Imagine Broadband is a telecommunications operator that sells broadband internet services in Ireland, both fibre and wireless 5G. The company presents itself as an alternative to the major national operators, with a proposition based on price transparency and the absence of lock-in contracts. According to its own website, it has more than 40,000 customers and offers 99% nationwide coverage for its fibre and 5G services.
Fibre optic plans
The fibre catalogue includes several symmetrical speeds. The Fibre Max plan reaches 1 Gbps and is designed for households with high consumption, 4K streaming and video calls; it includes a Wi-Fi 7 router, unlimited data and free installation, at a price of €48.99 per month (€38.99 for the first six months). The Fibre Starter plan offers 500 Mbps, suitable for browsing and light streaming, with a Wi-Fi 7 router, unlimited data and free installation, at €44.99 per month (€34.99 for the first six months). At the top end, the Fibre Ultra plan at 2 Gbps is aimed at households with intensive use, gamers or content creators, with a Wi-Fi 7 router, unlimited data and free installation, at €64.99 per month; this plan is listed as "coming soon" and is handled through the sales team.
5G wireless plans
For locations where fibre is not available, Imagine sells 5G plans. The 5G Basic plan offers 300 Mbps with a 650 GB limit, a self-install Wi-Fi 7 router and a price of €40.00 per month. The 5G Unlimited plan also reaches 300 Mbps, with unlimited data under a fair usage policy (FUP 1 TB), a Wi-Fi 7 router and self-installation, at €50.00 per month. The 5G Unlim-Pro plan goes up to 450 Mbps, with unlimited data (FUP 1 TB), a Wi-Fi 7 router and free technical installation valued at €150, at €60.00 per month. All 5G plans include a Wi-Fi 7 router and are fibre-ready or backup-ready.
Frozen prices and no lock-in policy
The company highlights that its prices are frozen until 31 December 2030, with no annual CPI increases or rises after the promotional period. According to its calculations, a customer can save up to €1,848 over five years compared to other operators. Imagine does not require a lock-in contract: the customer can cancel at any time, although if they do so within the first 24 months a Service Wrap-Up Charge of €60 applies, which the company describes as an administrative cost and not a contractual penalty. To cancel, the customer must notify before the 27th of the month, and the cancellation takes effect on the 1st of the following month. Prices include 23% VAT and payment is made by direct debit or debit card.
Wi-Fi 7 technology and coverage
All plans include a router with Wi-Fi 7 technology, which the company presents as an advance to improve the speed and stability of the connection across multiple devices. Coverage is nationwide, with 99% reach for fibre and 5G, although subject to availability by location. The company offers an online tool to check coverage by entering the Eircode.
Comparison with other operators
Imagine publishes a comparison in which it contrasts its prices and conditions with those of Eir, Sky, Virgin Media, GoMo, Three and Vodafone. In it, it points out that those operators' prices increase annually and that they apply lock-in contracts with early cancellation penalties, while Imagine maintains a fixed price and no ties. The company also states that it does not apply loyalty penalties and that new and existing customers pay the same.
Sign-up process and support
Sign-up can be done online or by phone. The process includes checking availability at the address, contacting the sales team and scheduling installation, which is free on fibre plans. Imagine offers phone support, live chat and email. The company states that installation is confirmed before the appointment and that there are no hidden costs.
