Solaris Tea

Family Galway company founded in 2003, with loose-leaf teas, herbal blends, tea bags, gifts, and customized blends for hospitality.

About Solaris Tea

Solaris Tea began in 2003 with herbal blends Joerg and Karin Mueller prepared in a converted attic. The couple had shared their first infusions with a local cafe and friends at tasting evenings. From Galway on Ireland’s west coast, that home-based work became a family loose-leaf tea and herbal infusion business serving consumers and hospitality establishments.

Growth required a new space: in 2005, sacks of herbs and spices moved from the home to a warehouse and blending rooms. Joerg develops the house blends and creates customized blends for professional clients. The company’s account of its history includes Great Taste awards and recognition from Euro-Toques in 2010 for its contribution to Irish cuisine.

The selection spans black, green, white, and oolong teas, alongside pu-erh and herbal infusions. Assam and Darjeeling provide references from India’s tea repertoire; Chun Mee and Gunpowder are among the greens, while Pai Mu Tan represents white tea. Leaves come in cylinders, pouches, and larger formats, alongside pyramid bags and individually wrapped stitched tea bags.

Herbal blends are described through ingredients that help shoppers imagine the cup. Lemongrass, Hibiscus & Ginger combines citrus notes with hibiscus and ginger. Ginger Herbal Chai includes cinnamon and cacao peel; Rooibos Cacao Vanilla adds vanilla to rooibos. Other blends combine chamomile and rose, mint with fennel and nettle, or fruit with hibiscus and orange peel.

Organic culinary-grade matcha has its own section, alongside herbs and spices for different preparations. Gifts bring tea selections together with teapots, cups, candles, and accessories. The range includes signature boxes, Irish heritage sets, and a personalized gift option that creates a blend for the recipient.

Solaris also works with delis, restaurants, hotels, and spas, offering formats for professional supply. Customized blending allows these businesses to develop their own selections. The Bloom collections created with Karin Müller and Be Better collections with Kerstin Linnartz introduce other collaborations within the brand, with distinct ingredients and formats.

The new loose-leaf presentation incorporates the Irish language as part of its connection to the country’s language and traditions. The website also offers brewing guidance and tasting experiences. Across internationally sourced products and blends made in Galway, the company retains an identity expressed both in the cup and in its presentation.
