About Costes Group
Costes Group, Hungarian restaurant group based in Budapest
Costes Group is a Hungarian business group dedicated to dining and entertainment, with a presence in Budapest and on the shore of Lake Öreg. Its activity spans from Michelin-recognised fine dining to urban bistros, a beach club, music and nightlife venues, and catering and event organisation services. The group presents itself as an authentic representative of gastronomy and entertainment in its country and states that it combines the consistency of high quality with variety and unpredictability.
Fine dining restaurants
The group operates several fine dining establishments. Costes Restaurant, founded in 2008, was the first restaurant in Hungary to earn a Michelin star, in 2010, a distinction it has maintained ever since. Its cuisine is defined by refined technique, exceptional ingredients and sustained quality, with patron chef Jenő Rácz at the helm.
Costes Downtown offers a contemporary urban experience in Budapest, where seasonal ingredients and refined technique combine with a relaxed, guest-focused atmosphere: fine dining without rigidity.
Platán Gourmet Restaurant, set on the shore of Lake Öreg within the historic Esterházy estate, is Hungary's first and only two Michelin-starred countryside restaurant. Chef István Pesti's cuisine is rooted in Hungarian tradition, shaped by French precision and subtle Asian inspiration. Its six- and ten-course tasting menus follow the rhythm of nature and draw on ingredients from the restaurant's own garden.
Rumour, created and led by Rácz Jenő, is a contemporary chef's table concept inspired by 1920s speakeasy bars. Entered through a discreet door, the art-driven space turns gastronomy into a performance: guests are seated around the kitchen stage and enjoy an undisclosed tasting menu.
MÁK is a contemporary fine dining restaurant led by chef János Mizsei, who works with personally selected local ingredients, applies a zero-waste philosophy and precise acid-profile techniques. The venue places equal importance on food and pairing, with a juice and non-alcoholic drinks programme in its own right.
Bistros and Hungarian cuisine
The group also brings together more informal offerings. Hoppá! is a modern bistro in central Budapest, with quality recognised by the Michelin Guide and relaxed hospitality. Its cuisine starts from seasonal ingredients and French technique, with bistro dishes that highlight the character of Hungarian flavours, and a wine selection focused on the Carpathian Basin.
Kádár Étkezde, on Klauzál Square, has been part of Budapest's culinary heritage and everyday life since 1957. Recently reopened by Costes Group, it retains its original spirit: a simple interior, checkered tablecloths and generous portions, with traditional Hungarian and Jewish-Hungarian dishes.
Kismező, on Nagymező Street, in Budapest's historic theatre district, is a contemporary Hungarian bistro where familiar flavours are presented in a modern, direct way, with seasonal ingredients. Lively at midday and warm in the evening, it offers a simple, honest take on Hungarian cuisine.
Leisure, music and events
VIBE, in central Budapest, integrates gastronomy, music and nightlife. Its offering combines refined cuisine, signature cocktails and a curated music programme; the atmosphere evolves over the course of the night, from dinner and entertainment to a late-night bar culture with DJs, artists and immersive visuals.
The group completes its offering with a Beach Club and with event and catering services, including the Lupa Event Hall and Costes Catering, focused on organising events with gastronomy at their core.
Recognition and track record
The group's track record includes significant milestones in Hungarian dining: the country's first Michelin star, earned by Costes Restaurant in 2010 and maintained ever since, and the two Michelin stars of Platán Gourmet Restaurant, the only countryside restaurant in Hungary with that distinction. The Michelin Guide also recommends Hoppá! as a bistro in Budapest.
