About Consulate-General of Japan in Frankfurt am Main
Japan’s Frankfurt Consulate-General serves Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. Residence in one of those states determines eligibility for both consular services and visas; if you live elsewhere, use the official Japanese-post map for Germany to identify the responsible counter.
Since 5 May 2026, many consular applications require an online appointment: passports, certificates, overseas voter registration, copies of residence records and selected family-register or nationality notifications. Document collection is exempt. Visa applications use a separate mandatory online appointment and require a complete printed file.
The office also provides information on birth and marriage registration, nationality, overseas voting, safety, textbooks and Certificates of Eligibility. It occupies the 34th floor of MesseTurm, and visitors pass through the tower’s entry controls. The official site names Takeshi Ito as consul-general and separates general, consular, cultural and economic contact channels.
