About Consulate-General of Japan in Strasbourg
Japan’s Strasbourg Consulate-General covers Alsace, Lorraine, Franche-Comté and Haute-Marne. Its visa page lists the relevant departments; ordinary residence matters more than a temporary stay elsewhere. Checking the district helps prevent filing with the wrong office.
This office’s visa rule differs from other Japanese posts in France: its website says there is no appointment system and district residents may file without booking. Applicants are still asked to arrive an hour before closing and check the document list. For working-holiday visas, a 30 June 2026 notice said the 2026 quota was full and applications would resume from 4 January 2027.
Services for Japanese nationals include passports, certificates and residence registration. The notification for stays of three months or more can be submitted online; changes, returns and transfers follow separate forms and channels. The consulate says registration also supports emergency alerts and services such as overseas voting. Consult the page for the specific document you need.
At 20 Place des Halles, Bureaux Europe, the office is on the seventh floor and the consular section on the ninth. The entrance is locked; visitors use the intercom, show photo ID and undergo a belongings check. Phones are not allowed on the administrative floor. Strasbourg station is about a 15-minute walk; tram lines A and D to Ancienne Synagogue–Les Halles cut the walk to roughly five minutes. Counter hours are 9 a.m.–noon and 2–5 p.m. The official site identifies Shigeta Oeda as consul general.
