Promenade des Anglais
Free public promenade along the Baie des Anges for walking or pausing by the Mediterranean.
About Promenade des Anglais
The Promenade des Anglais follows the Baie des Anges for almost seven kilometers. You do not need to walk its full length to see why it shapes Nice’s image: a short section offers sea views, city façades, blue chairs and a view down to pebbly beaches. The tourism office traces the promenade’s nineteenth-century beginnings to British visitors; today it is part of everyday life for people walking, running or pausing by the water.
The public promenade is free and has no ticket-office hours. Private beach concessions, restaurants and services along the road charge separately. With limited time, choose a central stretch that connects to Cours Saleya and Old Nice; for a different pace, explore farther west. The full length means that selecting a starting point and a realistic return matters. The Tripadvisor listing showed 4.5 out of 5 from 15,680 reviews on October 1, 2026. Recent visitors praised the sea views, while some mentioned summer heat and the need to watch for cyclists when crossing the bike lane.
It is a flexible way to see the coast without a fixed plan, but sun, wind and distance change the experience. Travelers with limited mobility should choose the section and access points that fit their needs, particularly if they also intend to reach a beach. Length, history and public access were checked with the metropolitan tourism office.
