Plage du Centenaire

Central Nice public beach with a seasonal municipal assisted-bathing service.

About Plage du Centenaire

Plage du Centenaire gives visitors public access to the Mediterranean in central Nice at 1 promenade des Anglais. Its appeal is not a promise of fine sand—the local beaches are pebbly—but the chance to combine Old Nice and the Promenade with time by the water without paying a private beach concession. Suitable shoes make walking on the stones and entering the sea easier.

In summer, the city sets up a free assisted-bathing service here for people with disabilities or limited mobility. Its listing names adapted access, amphibious wheelchairs, flotation aids, showers, toilets, changing rooms and shade. Neither a reservation nor proof is required to request assistance. Those facilities can make a real difference for travelers who otherwise struggle to use the shore, but their operation depends on the season and staff being present. The beach's Tripadvisor listing showed 4.5 out of 5 but only four reviews on October 1, 2026—too few to summarize every visit. One traveler described adapted access and help reaching the water; the dates and details of that account do not replace confirmation of the current city service.

Centenaire suits visitors staying in the center or wishing to avoid the longer trip to Carras, the other adapted beach farther west. Public access and summer assistance are separate matters: do not assume the seasonal service operates in October. Before swimming, check dates, lifeguard coverage and water conditions in city notices. Service details come from the City of Nice.
