Plage de Carras
Western Nice public beach with a free seasonal assisted-bathing service.
About Plage de Carras
Plage de Carras lies on the western stretch of the Promenade des Anglais at number 285, away from the busiest central section of Nice’s seafront. It is a public beach, so reaching the shore does not require hiring a lounger from a private operator. Like many Nice beaches, it is covered in rounded pebbles rather than sand; suitable shoes make walking and entering the water easier. Its location may appeal to visitors staying in western Nice or exploring that part of the coast.
Carras has a defining practical feature for some families and travelers. In summer, the city provides a free service that helps people with disabilities or limited mobility get into the water. Its listing names ramps, amphibious wheelchairs, flotation aids, shade, accessible showers, changing rooms and toilets, as well as reserved parking. No booking or proof is required, but the service depends on the season and staff being on duty. The city included Carras among its 2026 Blue Flag beaches; that annual award is not a live assessment of water conditions on the day of a visit.
From central Nice, Plage du Centenaire is closer and also offers summer assistance; Carras involves a journey west. Choose according to where you are staying and the access you need, then check the service dates, lifeguard coverage and bathing conditions with the city before leaving. The summer program should not be assumed to operate in October. Accessibility details come from the City of Nice listing; the description of the pebbly shoreline comes from the tourism office.
