Parc de la colline du Château

Free municipal park above Old Nice with views of the bay and port; closing times vary by season.

About Parc de la colline du Château

Colline du Château rises between Old Nice and the port. Its name promises a castle that no longer survives as a standing building: the city explains that traces of the long occupation remain. Today it is a 19.3-hectare park with paths, lawns, a waterfall, archaeological remains and viewpoints in two directions, toward the Baie des Anges and the harbor. Those contrasting views explain Nice’s geography better than a photograph taken only from the seafront.

Admission is free. City hours run from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 1 through October 31 and to 6 p.m. November through March. There are play areas and places to pause, but reaching the higher viewpoints means allowing for the climb and slopes. Set aside time to walk, stop and descend before closing, particularly with children or anyone who needs a specific access route. The park-specific Tripadvisor listing showed 4.6 out of 5 from 57 reviews on October 1, 2026. That is a small sample beside a separate listing for Castle Hill as a whole; the two counts should not be merged. Reviewers of the park listing noted the views and the uphill paths.

It can be a first stop for understanding Nice before exploring the old town, or the end of a day by the port. Its appeal does not depend on a paid ticket or organized activity: it is a public landscape with visible history. Features and hours come from the official City of Nice listing.
