Villa Masséna

Municipal museum on Riviera art and history in a villa near the Promenade des Anglais.

About Villa Masséna

Villa Masséna lets visitors look at Nice from a Belle Époque house rather than the shore. At 65 rue de France close to the Promenade des Anglais, the museum uses furniture, objects, paintings and documents to tell the city’s history from its incorporation into France in 1860 through the end of that era of visitors and urban change. The building itself is part of the visit, making the city that grew around the seafront easier to imagine.

City hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May through October and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. November through April, with Tuesdays closed. Standard admission listed on October 1, 2026, was €10, with free entry for eligible visitors who can show proof. The city lists air conditioning and access for people with reduced mobility. It is an indoor option for rain, much closer to the seafront than Musée Matisse in Cimiez. The Musée Masséna Tripadvisor listing showed 4.2 out of 5 from 840 reviews on October 1, 2026. Guests praised the villa and its historical collection; one wished for more explanations in other languages. For opening times and current access, use the city's up-to-date listing.

Choose it if Riviera history appeals and you want to combine museum and Promenade des Anglais in one day. For a primary interest in modern painting, Matisse is a closer match; Villa Masséna offers another way to read the city. Check temporary exhibitions, fees and access for your date on the official City of Nice page.
