About Consulate-General of Japan in Marseille
Japan’s Consulate-General in Marseille serves a broad area of southern France. Its official visa page lists departments in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Occitanie and Corsica. Residence and procedure determine the responsible office, so confirm jurisdiction before assembling an application.
Since 2026, visa applicants must request an appointment by phone after completing their file. The consulate says appointments may be requested up to three months before travel and that the estimated wait was two to three weeks in the update reviewed. Buying a ticket gives no priority and does not guarantee a visa. Applications are filed in person, not by post.
Passport services follow a different route: June 2026 instructions say applications and collection are in person and do not require an appointment. The site lists photographs, the current passport and family-register documents among the case-dependent requirements. Certificates and family matters have separate procedures, so do not assume passport rules apply to them.
The office is at 132 Michelet on Boulevard Michelet. Visitors enter through Hall Central and go to the fourth floor. It is about an eight-to-ten-minute walk from Rond-Point du Prado; buses 22 and B1 stop at Michelet Ramon opposite the building. Counter hours are 9 a.m.–noon and 1:45–4:30 p.m., distinct from phone hours. The website also announces outreach days, but showed no upcoming date. Consul-General Mitsuaki Mizuno took up the post on 2 October 2026.
