Chez Antonin

Oyster house and seafood restaurant at Les Halles since 1906; check the day’s catch and menu prices.

About Chez Antonin

Chez Antonin has a more specific history than that of a generic seafood stall. Antonin Bellegarde opened the business in 1906 at the old Halles Cordeliers; his daughter moved it to cours Lafayette when the market relocated in 1970. After further changes of ownership, Éric Giraud restored its oyster-house character in 1990. Today, inside Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, you can eat in the restaurant or stand at the counter. The menu brings together oysters, shellfish and the fish of the day; the house website also lists grilled squid, scallops and dishes that change with the season.

Tripadvisor displayed 4.7 out of 5 from 573 reviews on October 1, 2026. Diners often mention freshness and attentive service, and some return for the experience of choosing from the day’s produce. Others warn that particular oysters or shellfish can raise the bill, or that lunch may involve a wait. The official menu shows why asking before ordering helps: when checked, a dozen oysters ranged from €26 to €44 depending on type and size; prices may change. This rating belongs to Chez Antonin, not the market as a whole.

Find it at 102 cours Lafayette inside Les Halles, a walk from Part-Dieu; the market website lists nearby buses, metro and tram. The tourist office says it opens Tuesday to Sunday and usually closes on Mondays, with some holiday exceptions; confirm the day’s service with the restaurant. Its own website says reservations are taken by telephone only. If you want seafood with a documented history and a changing daily selection, this is a considered choice. If a cheap meal is your priority, read the menu first and compare other Halles counters. Mention allergies before ordering.
