About Kissa Tanto
Kissa Tanto, Italian-Japanese cuisine in Vancouver's Chinatown
Kissa Tanto is a restaurant located on the second floor of a building in Vancouver's Chinatown, which the house itself describes as the "House of Plenty." Its culinary proposal brings together the delicacy of Japanese cuisine with the warmth of Italian, a combination that the company presents as a meeting between two traditions that share a love of noodles, rice, and raw proteins.
A menu between Japan and Italy
The menu is organized into sections ranging from appetizers to main courses and sides. Among the starters are the pickle plate, fried stuffed olives with yuzu and smoked chili sausage, half-dozen oysters at market price with ume, yuzu, kimchi mignonette, and nori granita, and various raw fish and meat options.
The pasta and "tender to the tooth" section includes charcoal udon with dungeness crab, prawns, and squid; tajarin with butter, roasted mushrooms, and miso-cured yolk; and yuzu tagliatelle with house ragù, prosciutto di Parma, mortadella, guanciale, and hand-cut Australian wagyu.
Main courses include whole fried fish at market price, organic half chicken, fish of the moment, and pork chop, the latter also at market price. Sides include North Arm Farm zucchini, seasonal vegetables, and Koshihikari al Salto rice.
Beverages and corkage service
The restaurant has its own refreshments and beverage menu. The house indicates that it allows bringing a special bottle of wine, with a corkage fee of $75 per bottle and a maximum of two 750 ml bottles per reservation.
Reservations and dining experience
Reservations for groups of up to six people are managed through the Tock platform and open 30 days in advance at midnight. Modifications must be made directly on the Tock website or app. The space is designed for intimate dining and has a single large table with a maximum capacity of six diners. For groups of five or six, the Quintessential Omakase is offered, a journey that combines classics present on the menu since day one with creations by Chef Watanabe. The house does not allow outside food.
Gift cards
The restaurant offers gift cards in any denomination, available for purchase in person or through its website. eGift cards are emailed to the recipient and can be presented to staff printed out or from a phone at the time of payment.
