About Nourishy

Nourishy: Breast Milk Freeze-Drying in Australia

Nourishy is an Australian service specialising in transforming frozen breast milk into powder that is stable at room temperature. The company presents itself as Australia's first operating breast milk freeze-drying service and operates from a licensed and certified facility in Brisbane. According to its own communications, it has served more than 6,000 Australian families.

The SafeDry® Process and Traceability

The company's method, called SafeDry®, is based on keeping every bag of milk identified, separated and traceable from arrival to return. Each lactation bag is individually labelled on receipt and each order is processed separately, with no mixing or pooling. The milk never comes into direct contact with the machinery or other utensils, and it remains frozen until freeze-drying begins. The process removes water at low temperatures and adds no preservatives, fillers or additives.

Packaging and Formats

The resulting powder can be packaged in three formats. The Single-Feed option turns each bag of frozen milk into its own pouch of powder, with the date frozen indicated. The Multi-Feed option combines approximately 1.4 kg of frozen milk into one large pouch, which can be used for up to one month after opening. The combination option divides half of the milk into Multi-Feed pouches and the other half into Single-Feed pouches. Each pouch includes custom notes — date frozen, diet, medications, AM/PM, etc. — and a rehydration guide with instructions for preparing a bottle with the correct balance of nutrients and water.

Shelf Life and Uses

The company states that properly packaged freeze-dried breast milk can remain shelf-stable for up to three years. The powder can be rehydrated with warm water or added directly to foods appropriate for the baby's age. Among the benefits it highlights are freeing up freezer space, preserving the main macronutrients, easier travel without the need for freezing, and an alternative for high-lipase milk, whose taste may improve after rehydration according to reports from some families.

Australia-Wide Shipping and Delivery

Nourishy operates throughout Australia through two options. Shipping is done in a specialised insulated container, with express return labels included and no need for dry ice or ice packs; pricing starts at $240 with shipping included. Hand delivery is available at selected locations, without a shipping kit and with no minimum or maximum volume, from $6.50 per 100 grams of frozen milk. In both cases, the order can be collected or received by shipping.

Quality Control and Collaborations

Every order undergoes a water-activity test before release and is sealed in validated high-barrier packaging. The company collaborates with Australian researchers and professionals in the field of human milk preservation and nutrition, and works alongside Mothers Milk Bank Charity to freeze-dry pasteurised donor human milk intended for hospital use. Nourishy also identifies itself as Milkify's official Australian partner.
