About Quooker
Quooker: boiling water taps for the kitchen
Quooker is a company that sells taps capable of dispensing water at 100°C instantly, as well as filtered chilled still and sparkling water, and conventional hot and cold water from a single tap. The company presents itself as the creator of the world's first boiling water tap and operates in Ireland through Quooker Ireland Ltd., with its registered office at Donnybrook House, 36-42 Donnybrook Road, D04 W7T2, Dublin 4.
A system with a tank and a tap
The Quooker system consists of a tap installed on the worktop connected to a tank located in the kitchen cupboard. The tank works as a thermos connected to the water supply and keeps the water hot constantly, so that the tap always has fresh boiling water instantly available. The company details the dimensions of its various tanks: the PRO3 requires 50 cm in height and 15 cm in diameter; the COMBI and COMBI+ need 53 cm in height and 20 cm in diameter; and the CUBE system occupies 500 mm in height, 223 mm in width and 340 mm in depth.
Models and finishes
The catalogue includes several families of taps. The Flex series, with a pull-out hose to direct the jet, is offered in round and square versions and the company describes it as its best-selling all-in-one model. The Fusion series, also in round and square versions, is presented as the version of the iconic all-in-one tap with a modern design, also available in a Classic finish with a bevelled design. The Front model incorporates the hot and cold water controls on the front of the spout and the company describes it as its most ergonomic and most recent offering. The Nordic range comprises individual taps, round or square, for those who need a separate boiling water tap alongside the mixer tap, as well as the Twintaps sets, which combine a boiling water tap with a matching mixer. The company states that it offers more than 35 different styles and finishes, including Gunmetal, Rose Copper, black, stainless steel, gold and patinated brass.
Catalogue prices
The site shows indicative starting prices for several models: €1,530 for Flex Round, Flex Square, Fusion Round, Fusion Square and the Nordic Round Single Tap; €1,290 for the Nordic Round Single Tap and the Nordic Square Single Tap; €1,600 for the Nordic Round Twintaps and Nordic Square Twintaps sets; €1,720 for the Front model; and €1,780 for the Classic Fusion Round and Classic Fusion Square.
Energy efficiency and safety
According to the company's information, the COMBI tank has an A energy label and was the first 'heater' with high-vacuum insulation, which makes it, in its presentation, the most efficient way to supply hot water to the kitchen. The COMBI connects only to the cold water pipe and, by mixing cold water with boiling water, provides an immediate supply of 15 litres of hot water at 60°C. The PRO3 tank only dispenses boiling water and, according to the company, there is no EU energy label for this type of tank, although it considers them equally economical. As for safety, Quooker states that its tap is the safest option for the home and cites a 2020 study by the Dutch Burns Foundation on the use of boiling water taps and the risk of burns, which concluded that replacing the kettle with this type of tap appears to reduce the risk of burn accidents. The company highlights that the water flow does not form a solid jet, that the tap is insulated and swivelling, that it has a child-safe handle and that it cannot be knocked over.
Time and space savings
The company maintains that the tap saves time by eliminating the wait for water to boil and that, as the tank takes up little space, it frees up worktop surface and leaves usable space in the cupboard. With the CUBE accessory, the user also has filtered chilled still and sparkling water, which reduces the need to buy bottled water. The company states that more than 775,000 systems have been installed in the UK.
Uses and accessories
Quooker describes its tap as a versatile appliance for multiple tasks: preparing tea or coffee, blanching vegetables, sterilising baby bottles or cleaning pans. The Flex model, with an extendable hose, makes it easier to rinse the sink or clean chopping boards. The company also sells spare parts and service parts, CO₂ cylinders, replacement filters for the CUBE and Quooker accessories. It offers virtual demonstrations to show the full collection and help choose the right model.
History
The company traces the origin of the idea to 1970, when producing boiling water from the kitchen tap seemed an absurd proposition. Henri Petri, founder, relates that he conceived a tap capable of producing instant boiling water. Quooker states that since then it has been extending its offering across different markets.
