Yellow Ribbon Program

School contribution plus possible VA match; requires the 100% GI Bill tier, a participating institution, and available space.

About Yellow Ribbon Program

It is a school-and-VA supplement to the Post-9/11 GI Bill, intended for institutions where tuition may exceed the base payment cap.

Veterans and certain eligible dependents may qualify if they meet VA’s 100% Post-9/11 GI Bill criteria, including some Purple Heart recipients, Fry Scholars, and students using transferred benefits. The school must offer Yellow Ribbon, certify enrollment, and remain below its participant cap. Check the specific school and academic year.

Apply for Chapter 33 and obtain your Certificate of Eligibility first. Then search the VA school directory, ask whether spaces remain for your program, and request the renewal policy in writing. Compare net cost after GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon with housing, fees, and expenses outside the agreement.
