About Envision Summer & Pre-College Programs
Envision: Immersive Summer and Pre-College Programs
Envision Summer & Pre-College Programs is an educational organization that is part of WorldStrides and has been designing and operating immersive summer and pre-college programs for more than 40 years. Its offerings are aimed at elementary, middle, and high school students between the ages of 8 and 18, and combine interest exploration, leadership development, and college preparation.
Origin and History
The company traces its origins to 1985, when a Connecticut teacher took her middle school students to Washington, D.C., to witness President Reagan's inauguration. That initial experience led to an experiential learning model that, four decades later, has become an offering of more than 30 immersive summer programs in the United States and other destinations. In 2018, Envision joined the WorldStrides family, an educational travel provider that, according to the company itself, reaches more than 550,000 students annually through more than 50,000 educators.
Programs and Topics
Envision's catalog covers more than 20 topics, including medicine, music, veterinary, gaming, aerospace, law and CSI, and business. Programs take place in destinations across the Eastern, Central, and Western regions of the United States, as well as at international locations. The company states that programs are created together with educators and industry experts, and that each activity mirrors real-world challenges to foster critical thinking and communication.
Pedagogical Approach and Reported Outcomes
Envision maintains that its programs are designed to take students out of their comfort zones and help them discover their strengths. According to data published by the organization itself, more than two-thirds of attendees reported feeling more confident; more than two in three participants improved their analytical skills; more than three-quarters strengthened their communication skills; and 82% of students gained key skills. In addition, 94% of attendees said they made new friends. The company estimates that more than 800,000 students have participated in its programs.
WorldStrides Backing and International Network
As a subsidiary of WorldStrides, Envision is backed by an organization that, according to its presentation, maintains staffed offices in more than 40 countries and offers 24/7 health and safety support with doctors on call and WorldAssist. This infrastructure allows Envision to operate programs in multiple regions and access a global network of educational resources.
