About The Tuxon Hotel
The Tuxon Hotel: a renovated motor lodge with desert soul in Tucson
The Tuxon Hotel is a design-forward boutique stay in Tucson, Arizona, that reinterprets the classic American motor lodge with a desert-modern aesthetic and mid-century details. The original building dates from 1969 and retains its motor lodge structure, with cactus-lined walkways and desert views. The property was reimagined by FORS Architecture with the goal of honoring what already existed, resulting in a space with Native, Mexican, and Southwestern influences. It is located in Barrio Kroeger Lane, one of the city's oldest neighborhoods, just minutes from downtown.
Accommodations and design
The rooms follow the hotel's aesthetic line, with local artwork by artists such as Ishi Glinsky, Joe Pagac, and Jessica Gonzales. The decor includes touches of brass, stone, and saddle leather, with a palette that evokes the landscape: burnt sienna, golden yellow, and muted greens of desert flora. Guests have MALIN+GOETZ toiletries in all rooms, room service, and pet-friendly policies. The hotel offers free parking and electric vehicle charging stations.
Shady Cactus Swim Club and social life
The boomerang-shaped pool, surrounded by palm trees, is the heart of the hotel. Five private cabanas offer shaded areas to relax. The Shady Cactus Swim Club functions as a poolside bar and is also open to locals, no room key required. Every day at 5:30 pm a ranch bell rings to mark the start of the Shady Toast, a ritual that kicks off Shady Hour with a complimentary drink. The food and drink offerings include frozen cocktails, slushies, slushie shots, shareable nachos, and poke bowls. The club hosts DJ sets and pop-up collaborations.
