About Canyon Ranch

Canyon Ranch, pioneer of integrative wellness in the United States

Canyon Ranch presents itself as the original pioneer of integrative wellness, with more than four decades of experience in the field. Its origin dates back to 1978, when Mel Zuckerman decided to change his sedentary lifestyle; after two weeks of healthy living, he wanted to help others achieve the same. That mission materialized in 1979 with the opening of the first Canyon Ranch destination in Tucson, Arizona, which introduced an integrative approach that combines methods, treatments, and evidence from Western and Eastern traditions to address the well-being of mind, body, and spirit.

The company notes that since then, thousands of guests have contributed stories of transformation and that approaches popularized at Canyon Ranch, such as yoga, meditation, plant-based diets, and integrative medicine, have become commonplace. Currently, the company is led by owner John Goff along with a team of wellness experts.

Destinations and accommodations

Canyon Ranch operates five immersive destinations in desert, forest, or mountain landscapes. Tucson, Arizona, holds the distinction of Three Michelin Keys and is located in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, in the Sonoran Desert. Lenox, Massachusetts, earned Two Michelin Keys. Austin, Texas, is the new resort in Hill Country, whose opening is scheduled for October 15. Las Vegas, Nevada, holds the Forbes Four-Star award. Fort Worth, Texas, was recognized as best day spa and gym/fitness center by 76107 magazine.

The accommodation offering is organized by destination and allows choosing among different modalities: build your own stay, designed experiences, events and retreats, and group stays.

Five pillars of wellness

Canyon Ranch's approach is articulated around five pillars. The spa and beauty pillar includes healing bodywork and therapeutic treatments aimed at relaxation and energy. The health and performance pillar offers personalized prevention plans developed by physicians and experts. The fitness and movement pillar seeks to improve everyday mobility and athletic performance with the support of exercise specialists. The mind and spirit pillar encompasses behavioral therapy, coaching, and spiritual guidance to pursue balance and purpose. The nutrition and food pillar focuses on strategies for optimal weight and holistic health, with advice from nutritionists and chefs.
