About Pima Council on Aging — Tucson and Pima County

Pima Council on Aging (PCOA) is the Area Agency on Aging for Pima County and a community nonprofit. Its resource line, 520-790-7262, guides older adults, caregivers, and families on meals, in-home support, Medicare, housing, transportation, and caregiver help. The main office is at 600 South Country Club Road; posted hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For help at home, the case-management team assesses needs by phone and, when appropriate, in person; referrals may include bathing support, meal preparation, housekeeping, shopping, caregiver respite, or emergency-alert services. PCOA warns that a waiting list currently exists for assessment for some in-home services. Ask which support can begin promptly and which requires screening and a wait.

The organization also coordinates six community lunch sites in Tucson and Green Valley. People age 60 and older and their spouses may participate; advance registration and meal reservations are required, and the suggested contribution is $2 to $3 per meal. Each center has different days, hours, and activities, so call the site before setting out. The profile lists locations with individual route links.

PCOA offers information and counseling on Medicare, long-term care, resident advocacy, wellness activities, and caregiver programs. Its resource directory includes independent, community, and public options; the helpline helps filter by ZIP code, need, and budget. Not every listed option is free or delivered directly by PCOA.

When calling, provide the ZIP code, age, mobility, relevant diagnosis, and whether the person can be left alone. Ask what documents are needed, whether a contribution applies, how long screening may take, and which provider will deliver the service. The main office is administrative: meals are served at participating sites, and in-home support requires assessment.
