Wilson State Park

Wilson State Park gives a journey to Lucas an outdoor dimension. Its Hell Creek and Otoe areas occupy part of the Wilson Reservoir shore in the Smoky Hills. The park is outside Lucas; the published office address is in Sylvan Grove. That distinction helps travelers choose their base and understand the drive between the art town and the water.

The landscape supports different kinds of visits. Cedar Trail is a concrete-surfaced loop in the Otoe area, while Switchgrass is a mountain-bike trail requiring a different level of preparation. A walk and a technical ride should be chosen for the experience and ability of the visitor, with current conditions checked before departure.

Eight rental cabins add the possibility of staying within the park. They have bathrooms with showers, heating, air conditioning and kitchen facilities, but their layouts and cooking equipment vary. Guests must bring bedding and personal supplies; confirm the full packing list for the cabin reserved. These are independent park accommodations rather than hotel rooms with daily service.

A vehicle permit is required for park entry. The state park and neighboring federal recreation areas have different management, so a notice affecting one should not automatically be applied to the other. The park office is the appropriate contact for cabin arrangements, access and current facilities.
