About Estate Lindholm

Estate Lindholm, a historic inn overlooking Cruz Bay in St. John

Estate Lindholm is an intimate tropical inn located on the hillside overlooking Cruz Bay Harbor on the island of St. John (U.S. Virgin Islands). The property occupies land originally settled in the 1720s by Dutch planters and today combines restored Danish ruins adjacent to the National Park. The property retains a stone and brick setting that the company presents as a mark of simple elegance and a tranquil ambiance.

The Morrisette family has made their home on the property since 1950. Brion Morrisette and his children still live there and operate the bed and breakfast. The inn is managed by Tim Ressegiue and Savanna Morrisette, Brion's stepson and daughter, who share with guests their local knowledge of the island, its history, and its culture.

Accommodations: 21 rooms with harbor views

The accommodations offer 21 rooms with private furnished balconies, spacious bathrooms, and wet bar areas with mini refrigerators, coffee makers, and microwaves, as well as air conditioning and complimentary high-speed internet. All rooms offer views of Cruz Bay Harbor, the island of St. Thomas, and the nearby cays.

Among the rooms, the Plantation Cottage stands out as the most historic, a renovation of the original house built by the Morrisette family that incorporates structures from the early 18th century, retaining 18-inch-thick stone, brick, and cut coral walls. The Salomon and Haulover rooms are the new penthouse accommodations, located on the third floor, with wide double French doors that open to the scenery, a wet bar area, and high-end furnishings. Haulover is one of the six rooms with a king-size bed.

Included services and property amenities

The rate includes daily breakfast and housekeeping. Breakfast offers hot and cold beverages, coffee, water, and fruit juices; assorted Caribbean fruits, plain or vanilla yogurt, cereal, and hard-boiled eggs; hot options such as oatmeal and French toast; and a selection of baked goods including bagels, assorted muffins, and English muffins, with a toaster and microwave available for guests.

For added convenience, the inn provides beach towels, floats, chairs, and soft coolers. It also offers free on-site parking for those who rent a car. The property has an automatic backup generator that ensures electricity in the rooms and on the property during island-wide power outages, as well as a large ice machine with complimentary ice. To rent snorkeling gear, there are several locations in Cruz Bay, including the Beach Bum shop at Wharfside Village.

Surroundings, activities, and access

Guests can read or sunbathe on their private balcony or relax by the inn's pool, with views of the harbor and St. Thomas. St. John offers a wide range of activities and excursions: hiking, scuba diving, snorkeling, sport fishing, parasailing, day sails, sea kayaking, windsurfing, island tours, and boat rentals. Cruz Bay, the island's center of commerce, is home to businesses that offer these activities, and the inn assists guests with information or reservations.

The white-sand beaches and turquoise waters of Honeymoon and Salomon are a short walk away along National Park trails. The shops, art galleries, jewelers, restaurants, and cafés of Cruz Bay are also nearby. For day trips, St. Thomas and its capital, Charlotte Amalie, are known for duty-free shopping, and the British Virgin Islands—Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, and Virgin Gorda—are accessible via organized excursions or scenic ferry rides.

Family history and heritage

The property's history dates back to its settlement in the 1720s. A historical map of St. John from around 1830 marks the original location of Estate Lindholm, a geographical link between the island's Danish plantation past and the view captured in a 1979 photograph. In 1975, Brion Morrisette and his mother, Sarah, appear in front of their family home, Sarah's Fancy, which today features four luxury rooms overlooking Cruz Bay Harbor, each with a king-size bed. The 1979 photograph, taken by Sarah Morrisette, offers a view of Cruz Bay Harbor.
