Carpeting By Mike: Flooring and Installation in Somerset, Wisconsin

Carpeting By Mike, Inc. is a family-owned company based in Somerset, Wisconsin, operating in the St. Croix Valley since 1973. Founded by Mike Faust, the company passed to his daughter Typhannie Watson, who currently serves as vice president and runs the business with the support of her own daughter, completing three generations dedicated to the industry. The company serves customers in Somerset, Hudson, New Richmond, River Falls, Stillwater, and nearby areas.

Flooring Catalog and Brands

The company's showroom displays a full range of flooring for homes and businesses, organized into the following categories:

• Hardwood
• Vinyl
• Luxury Vinyl (LVP and LVT)
• Carpet
• Carpet Tile
• Laminate

Among the featured brands and technologies it carries are EverStrand, RevWood, SmartStrand, TecWood, LuxeCraft, and PETPremier. The catalog also includes its own product lines.

Installation and Measurement Services

The company offers comprehensive flooring installation services for both residential and commercial projects. The installation team is certified by Certified Flooring Installers (CFI), an international organization that since 1993 has promoted the professionalization of the trade through training and certification. Carpeting By Mike has five CFI-certified installers and backs every job with a ten-year installation warranty.

To facilitate planning, the company offers two measurement options:

• Custom Measurement: the customer first visits the showroom to explore samples and receive one-on-one advice; then an in-home measurement is scheduled to fit their schedule, with sample pickup if needed.
• Express Measurement: designed for urgent needs, such as selling or renting a home; the team quickly comes to the property with a selection of in-stock products and provides a fast estimate without the need to visit the showroom.

Residential and Commercial Projects

In addition to residential work, the company performs installations in commercial settings, including schools and high-traffic spaces. For the latter, it offers commercial flooring solutions designed to withstand intensive use, with criteria of durability, safety, and ease of maintenance. The company also produces custom area rugs.

History and Trajectory

Mike Faust opened his first store in 1973. His daughter Typhannie began accompanying him as a child, picking up scraps and vacuuming after installations, and eventually took over the management of the business. Faust retired in the summer of 2023 for health reasons, although he continues to be a source of consultation and advice. In 2019, the Somerset showroom, located in the town's industrial park, was renovated so that customers can see and touch flooring options before deciding.

Promotions and Customer Service

The website announces a current promotion from September 18 to November 2 offering up to $1,000 back on select Karastan styles. The company is also celebrating its 50th anniversary with a free cleaning kit. The store also offers financing to its customers.
