Bakersfield College — Shafter Learning Center

The Shafter Learning Center extends Bakersfield College’s presence about 18 miles northwest of the main campus. BC’s location directory lists it at 236 James Street and the college’s rural-initiatives pages describe classes and registration support delivered through local partnerships. The building is shared with the Shafter Branch Library, so a student can use a community learning setting rather than travelling to Panorama for every activity.

Bakersfield College and the City of Shafter have documented a partnership that provides space for BC classes and connects residents with library and learning resources. The city operates the library; BC’s role is to offer college instruction and student access through its rural initiatives. Course subjects, registration events and advising visits are scheduled rather than guaranteed every day, so use the current BC schedule and call ahead before making the trip.

The college lists 661-746-5055 for the center. Because the site is a local teaching and support location rather than a full-service campus, prospective students should ask where their class meets, whether an advisor will be present and what enrollment documents to bring. The college’s main application and financial-aid processes still apply.
