Senoia Area Historical Society and Museum

Volunteer-run local-history museum in the Carmichael Home, with five display rooms, a research library and a digital archive launched in 2026.

About Senoia Area Historical Society and Museum

Senoia Area Historical Society and Museum gives the town a history longer than its screen identity. The society purchased the Carmichael Home in 1990 and opened the museum to the public in July 2010. Five display rooms and a research library connect local objects, documents and community memory within an actual historic residence.

Exhibits range from the Creek Nation and William McIntosh to a contemporary Walking Dead display. The society treats film as part of Senoia’s economic and social history alongside earlier industries. Visitors seeking a large collection of television props should understand that this is a community-history museum with a film component, rather than a themed entertainment attraction.

The current official pages set Saturday and Sunday opening from 1 to 4 p.m., with free admission. That schedule differs from an older summer timetable still quoted on a municipal community page. The museum is staffed by member volunteers under its museum director; special events and meeting-room rental have separate arrangements.

In 2026 the society launched its comprehensive digital archive for historical documents, family records and photographs. This provides a way to continue exploring after the physical visit. Its film-history page also reminds visitors that many recognizable houses are private homes, not open sets. Google Maps records 4.9 from 52 reviews. The contact page currently publishes email; the telephone recorded here is shown on the museum’s Google listing.
