About Ambiente Sedona
Ambiente Sedona, an adults-only landscape hotel in Arizona
Ambiente Sedona presents itself as Sedona's only adults-only landscape hotel and the first of its kind in North America. Its concept combines luxury accommodations with a natural setting centered on the area's red rock landscape. The property opened in 2023 and is family-owned, operated by Mike Stevenson alongside his daughters Jennifer May and Colleen TeBrake, known on the project as Two Sister Bosses.
Atrium accommodations with panoramic views
The hotel has 40 suites called atriums, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls offering 180-degree views of the national forest and red rock formations. Each atrium features an earth-tone palette and is designed for guests seeking luxury in a natural setting. The suites include rooftop fire pits. The views range from the Brins Mesa mountain range to a series of ancient waterways running throughout the property.
Dining and spa
The Forty1 restaurant presents itself as a departure from the standard hotel restaurant, with a culinary reputation that draws diners from outside. The Velvet Spa offers full service, and its appointments are described as highly sought after.
Conservation and sustainability
The project incorporates the restoration of an ancient waterway that serves as a water feature throughout the property. The company states that its elevated design aims to minimize impact on the natural environment and that its construction and service philosophies reflect that commitment to conservation.
Events and group services
The hotel offers the possibility of hosting group events. It also has a virtual tour that allows visitors to see the facilities, restaurant, spa, rooms, and surroundings. The property presents itself as suitable for celebrations such as birthdays, anniversaries, proposals, babymoons, and honeymoons.
Family history
The project's story dates back to 1959, when Michael Stevenson began working in hospitality at a restaurant in Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California. After serving in the U.S. Army, he moved to Sedona at age 26 to work at his father's restaurant, The Dutchman's Cove. In 1973 he invested his savings in The Red Rock Motel, on the edge of Oak Creek Canyon, a business that did not prosper and led him to file for bankruptcy and return to California. There he developed a manufacturing business that allowed him to return to Sedona in 1985. In 2016 he acquired the land on which the current hotel stands, a parcel overlooking the Coconino National Forest, and in 2023 the property opened its doors.
Recognition
The hotel has appeared in outlets such as Condé Nast Traveler, with mentions in its Hot List 2023 and in its selection of best new wellness hotels, as well as in The Arizona Republic, ICONIC Life Magazine, Town & Country, and Frontdoors Magazine.
