About Faust Gallery
Faust Gallery: American Indian and contemporary art in Scottsdale and Santa Fe
Faust Gallery is a gallery specializing in American Indian and contemporary art with two locations: one in Scottsdale (Arizona) and one in Santa Fe (New Mexico). Founded in 1996 by William A. Faust II, the gallery presents itself as a destination for collectors, museums, and enthusiasts of Indigenous art. Its catalog spans jewelry, pottery, sculpture, painting, Navajo weavings, glass works, photography, and drawings, with both historical and contemporary pieces.
A Three-Decade History
The gallery is celebrating its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of activity since its founding in 1996. The company draws on a 47-year family legacy in the field of American Indian art. Its founder, Bill Faust, has 47 years of experience in buying, selling, and appraising American Indian art. He has served as a judge at prominent art markets, such as the Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market, and is a frequent lecturer.
The Legacy of Lovena Ohl
The history of Faust Gallery goes back to Lovena Ohl, Bill Faust's great-aunt and an influential figure in the modern appreciation of Indigenous art. Lovena began her career as a buyer at the Heard Museum shop in Phoenix, where she helped turn it into a leading showcase for Indigenous art of the Southwest. In 1978 she opened her own gallery and was described by The New York Times as the "doyenne of American Indian Art." Beginning in the 1960s, she was part of a movement that recognized the evolution of Native jewelry toward contemporary wearable art, and her gallery helped launch many of the most prominent Indigenous jewelers and artisans of the 20th century.
Jewelers Represented
Faust Gallery has represented some of the most significant Native jewelers of the modern era. Among them are Charles Loloma, Sonwai (Verma Nequatewa), Harvey Begay, Larry Golsh, Charles Supplee, Don Supplee, Carl Clark, and Ric Charlie, among others. The gallery highlights its relationship with Charles Loloma (1921–1991), a Hopi jeweler whose revolutionary designs were ahead of their time; the friendship between Loloma and Bill Faust began in 1981 and his influence remains present in the gallery's philosophy.
Catalog: Jewelry, Art, and Collectibles
The gallery's offerings are organized into several categories. In jewelry, it distinguishes between contemporary and historic pieces, and includes earrings, bracelets, rings, necklaces, pendants, belt buckles, bolo ties, and pins. In art, the catalog covers paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, intaglio prints, Navajo weavings, glass works, kachinas, and pottery (contemporary, historic, and miniature). The gallery also has a sale items section and a guide to collecting, sizing, and caring for pieces.
Exhibitions and Events
Faust Gallery organizes temporary exhibitions and special events. At the time of scanning, the site announced a current exhibition with dates from August 14 to 16, 2026. The gallery also maintains a blog and a news and events section.
Services for Collectors
In addition to selling works, the gallery offers consignment services and a guarantee on pieces. Its audience includes collectors, institutions, and visitors interested in Indigenous art. The company presents itself as a space that combines heritage and innovation, with a focus on the authenticity, craftsmanship, and integrity of each object.
