About The Original Creepy Crawl Haunted Pub Tour of Savannah
A nighttime tour through Savannah's haunted pubs
The Original Creepy Crawl Haunted Pub Tour of Savannah is a walking tour that travels through Savannah's historic district (Georgia) at night, combining visits to local bars with tales of paranormal activity and dark historical episodes. The company presents itself as the city's oldest haunted pub crawl and has operated nightly since 1996. It is managed by Savannah by Foot LLC.
How it works and the route
The tour departs each night from the Six Pence Pub, at 245 Bull Street, just south of Chippewa Square. The estimated duration is two hours and the walking route covers a mile or more, with stretches of uneven sidewalks. The guide introduces participants to up to four local bars and other haunted spots in Savannah, among tree-lined squares and the city's nightlife. Along the way, you'll hear tales of local spirit activity and historical details at various locations, including Colonial Park Cemetery.
Conditions and price
The tour is exclusively for adults: you must be at least 21 years old and present a valid, unexpired photo ID. Georgia law requires bar patrons to carry photo identification, and those who cannot show it may be turned away at the stops. The price is $30 per person, tax included, and does not include drinks. Gratuity is not included and is not required. Attendees receive a souvenir drink koozie with custom artwork that allows them to drink on the street, which is legal in the city. Groups are kept to around twenty people. The company reserves the right to remove anyone who disrupts the order, drinks excessively, or harms the experience of others.
Style of the visits
The guides are longtime local residents, many of them native Savannahians. The tours do not follow a fixed script and are improvised; they focus on history and personal accounts of paranormal phenomena in the neighborhood. The company warns that this is not a corporate product and does not seek artificial scares or made-up stories. The guide may drink during the tour and use colorful language.
Hours and reservations
Creepy Stroll Ghost Tour
In addition to the pub tour, the company offers the Creepy Stroll Ghost Tour, a family-friendly tour for all ages that is only available by special request and with a minimum of six participants. The price is $20 for adults and $10 for children; children under three are free. It lasts approximately 90 minutes and starts at the northwest corner of Colonial Park Cemetery, at the intersection of Abercorn and Oglethorpe. The guide adapts the stories for children and offers tales creepy enough for adults. It is a popular option for Girl Scout troops, who receive free patches; it is recommended to give advance notice if Scouts will be attending so the patches can be brought.
Background and founder's profile
The company was founded by Greg Proffit more than twenty years ago and has since led nighttime excursions through the most haunted corners of the historic district. It presents itself as one of the city's original walking tours, established by a pioneer of the industry decades before its competitors. Before creating Savannah Tours, Greg Proffit served in the Coast Guard and was stationed at various points across the country; upon retiring, he chose Savannah for its beauty, history, and lifestyle. His love of interacting with people and telling stories led him to found the company, which has been active for nearly three decades. Over the years, he has raised $40,000 for Leukemia Lymphoma through sponsored overnight stays in haunted rooms, and his sponsored tours raised more than $1,000 for the Red Cross appeal after Hurricane Katrina.
