About The Point

The Point: A Great Camp of the Gilded Age in Saranac Lake

The Point is an all-inclusive luxury resort set on a private 75-acre estate in Saranac Lake, in the Adirondacks region of New York. The accommodation occupies a collection of log mansions built a century ago by William Avery Rockefeller II with native timber and stone, embodying the 19th-century romantic notion of experiencing the wilderness in great comfort, style, and luxury. It is the only Great Camp from the Adirondack Gilded Age open to the public.

The property was designated 39 years ago as the first Relais & Châteaux member in North America and is the only Forbes Five Star property in Upstate New York. The company presents itself as a secluded hideaway where staff anticipate guests' desires and work discreetly to make the stay memorable.

Accommodation: Eleven Distinctive Guestrooms

The resort has eleven guestrooms distributed across different areas of the complex, including Mohawk, Algonquin, Iroquois, Morningside, Sentinel, Lookout, Trappers, Saranac, Weatherwatch, Evensong, and Boathouse. The estate also offers accessibility measures for guests.

Dining and Culinary Experience

The cuisine is organized around three moments of the day — Day Break, Midday, and Day's End — and is served in a communal dining room. Dinner is presented as a special occasion: for the four courses each night, cocktail attire for ladies and jacket and tie for gentlemen is requested. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, the formal dress tradition of the Great Camps gives way to a seven-course tasting menu, with premium wine pairings. The culinary team is led by an executive chef.

Activities and Wellbeing

The activities program is divided into two seasons, spring/summer and autumn/winter, and includes excursions and relaxation offerings. The offering is completed with wellbeing services, natural immersion, and a specific section for pets. The estate also hosts retreats, exclusive bookings, executive retreats, and special celebrations, and presents itself as a suitable place for a romantic getaway, an intimate wedding, a family reunion, or an executive meeting.

Guest Profile and History

The resort targets a discerning clientele that values privacy and detailed service. According to its own presentation, many guests have been returning for decades and request their usual accommodation well in advance. The property maintains its own art collection and offers guests information about the estate, the Adirondacks, and the Great Camp era.
