Forward Foundation Veteran and Military Family Scholarship Programs
Returning to school during a military transition can raise practical questions beyond tuition: which program to choose, how to document service, and where to find mentorship. Forward Foundation offers two paths: the Veteran Scholarship Program for veterans of any branch and the Military Family Scholarship Program for spouses and dependents. Its Fall 2026 awards support tuition and education expenses and pair funding with one-to-one mentorship; they are not federal VA grants.
About Forward Foundation Veteran and Military Family Scholarship Programs
Returning to school during a military transition can raise practical questions beyond tuition: which program to choose, how to document service, and where to find mentorship. Forward Foundation offers two paths: the Veteran Scholarship Program for veterans of any branch and the Military Family Scholarship Program for spouses and dependents. Its Fall 2026 awards support tuition and education expenses and pair funding with one-to-one mentorship; they are not federal VA grants.
The organization lists four award tiers: $1,500 for first-time applicants and $2,500 for returning recipients who show continued commitment, in both veteran and military-family tracks. Applicants must be enrolled in or accepted to an accredited education program; the application asks for service or family documentation, proof of enrollment, and a personal statement. The Foundation says it has no GPA, income, or citizenship cutoffs and considers educational commitment, leadership, need, and military connection.
The Fall application window runs October 1 through November 15, 2026; the organization lists December 15 for decisions. It says it is registered as a nonprofit in Utah but does not currently hold federal 501(c)(3) status, so donations are not tax-deductible; that distinction clarifies its legal registration versus federal tax exemption. There is no application fee. Before uploading personal documents, review the privacy terms, verify the portal, and keep a copy of the submission.
To compare this benefit with other options, ask financial aid for an estimate separating tuition, fees, housing, and excluded expenses. Confirm whether it can renew, what academic progress it requires, and whom to contact if payment does not appear on the account. Keep award letters and receipts until the school confirms disbursement.
