About Willamette University Competitive Scholarships
Willamette University separates competitive scholarships from the merit aid that accompanies admission. Students seeking awards tied to talent or experience must first apply for admission; portal access follows, and the scholarship application is completed there. The fall 2027 cycle opened October 1, 2026, with an early priority date of November 15 and a final priority date of January 18, 2027.
Awards address different interests, including leadership, service, music, art, STEM, public health, and other areas. Willamette lists examples such as annual $8,500 Knowledge into Action and Living the Motto awards, $5,000 for STEM Fellows, and $11,500 for Public Health, subject to renewal and program-specific academic or need requirements. These are not universal amounts or necessarily stackable; the university says a student receives the award that best matches their strengths.
Each program has its own file: some require responses of 250 words or more, while others ask for an audition, portfolio, service record, FAFSA, or proof of financial need. Early Action and Early Decision applicants who apply by November 15 are scheduled to hear in December. Check the portal if your admission plan changes, because some scholarships may remain open after the January priority date.
The university recommends applying only to programs that fit a student’s record and preparing materials before portal access arrives. Confirm whether an award supplements the admission scholarship, what renewal requires, and whether it calls for a particular major. To assess the real price, compare the full aid letter—grants, scholarships, loans, and work—with tuition and living costs; a competitive scholarship does not mean every expense is covered.
