Oregon Promise Grant

Oregon Promise is state aid for recent high-school and GED graduates beginning at an Oregon community college. Oregon Promise is state aid for recent high-school and GED graduates beginning at an Oregon community college. It does not finance an entire degree or mean “free college”: it is a last-dollar tuition grant, applied after Pell and the Oregon Opportunity Grant, and is calculated for up to 12 credits per term. For full-time study, the state lists a 2026–27 annual range of $2,280 to $4,716, but an individual award depends on tuition, credits, and other grants.

Applicants need the separate Oregon Promise application and a FAFSA or ORSAA listing at least one Oregon community college, 12 months of state residency, an unweighted high-school GPA of at least 2.0—or the GED score specified by OSAC—and no more than 90 college credits attempted or completed. For the cohort graduating from July 2026 through June 2027, the state portal announced an opening in mid-October 2026. Students generally get one opportunity to apply; missing the date normally prevents a later application.

The grant covers six to twelve credits per term; students pay for additional credits, charges outside eligible tuition, and any difference when campus tuition exceeds the state-recognized average. Graduates through June 30, 2026 have missed the application deadline for that cohort; OSAC’s FAQ describes appeals filed within two weeks of a missed deadline, but directs students to contact the agency. Before registering, ask the community college for a written estimate of the balance after Pell, OOG, and Oregon Promise.
