About Rockford Promise Scholarship
The 2026–27 application opened October 1, 2026 and closes February 1, 2027 at 5 p.m. Central. The scholarship serves graduates who attended all four years at Rockford Public Schools 205 or a partner private high school and are admitted to a participating institution: Rock Valley College, Rockford University, Northern Illinois University, or Saint Anthony College of Nursing.
The award covers tuition and general fees left after other financial aid; it does not cover books, housing, or personal expenses. “Promise” also does not mean every applicant receives the same amount: each partner adds its own screening. Rock Valley College, for example, lists a 2.5 unweighted cumulative GPA and FAFSA or Illinois’ alternative aid application; Rockford University, NIU, and Saint Anthony have their own criteria.
First complete FAFSA before applying to Rockford Promise and add your college’s FAFSA code. If you cannot file FAFSA, Rock Valley College or NIU accept the Illinois Alternative Application under their rules; verify whether that option applies at your campus. Then apply to the college, submit the Promise application, and monitor email. Offers typically arrive four to six weeks after the deadline and must be accepted or declined by May 1.
This is not a portable scholarship for any university: transfer paths have specific GPA, Pell/MAP, application-date, and immediate-enrollment rules. A common application does not erase partner conditions or guarantee competitive funds. Before choosing, compare the campus net-price offer, housing and book expenses, city-residency rules at some partners, and tuition costs beyond the residual award.
