About Redstone Inn
Redstone Inn: Historic Lodging in the Crystal River Valley
The Redstone Inn is a hotel located in the town of Redstone, Colorado, on the banks of the Crystal River and at the head of Redstone Village. Both the inn and the village are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building, constructed in 1902, combines Tudor Revival style architecture with Arts and Crafts style decor and furnishings.
Accommodations and Amenities
The inn offers eight unique room styles, from dormers to suites, no two alike. It has multiple dining options: a casual bar and grill, a traditional fine-dining restaurant, and room service. It also offers professional catering services for events.
Amenities include a pool, hot tub, pickleball court, and fitness center. Day passes are available for $25 per person (free for children under 3), granting access to these facilities from 9am to 4pm; no outside food or drink allowed.
History
Redstone was founded by John Cleveland Osgood, an early 20th-century entrepreneur who spearheaded a large-scale coal mining operation in the area. In 1892, the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company was born. The high-grade coking coal of the area and the beehive coking ovens in Redstone spurred the construction of the Crystal River Railroad. To improve the living conditions of the miners, Osgood built 84 Swiss chalet style homes to house miners with families and an elegant 20-room inn (now the Redstone Inn) for bachelor employees. Shortly after, the mining company was taken over in a stock dispute that led to the closing of the mines and coke ovens.
Events and Celebrations
The inn hosts events throughout the year. In July, the 4th of July offers free swimming from 2pm to 5pm and a special holiday menu (breakfast 8am-11am, lunch 11am-5:30pm, and dinner 5:30pm-8:30pm). At Easter, the Redstone Community Association organizes an Easter egg hunt in the park on March 30 at 11am, and the inn offers an Easter brunch on March 31 from 9:30am to 2pm in Red's Dining Room, reservations required. Thanksgiving features a dinner and the Grand Illumination on the Saturday after. Mother's Day offers a brunch on May 12 from 9:30am to 2pm, also by reservation. On Wednesday evenings from 2pm to 6pm, Local's Night is held, with free access to the pool, hot tub, and pickleball, and special food and beverage specials.
