About Western Dakota Technical College Foundation Scholarships

Western Dakota Technical College in Rapid City administers more than 30 Foundation scholarships for its students. One general application can match a student with every fund whose criteria they meet, and a student may receive more than one award. This process is separate from Build Dakota, which has its own application and calendar. Read the exact cycle instructions to avoid confusing the two programs.

For Spring 2027, the Foundation application accepts degree-seeking students, including full-time, part-time, and international students. That general access does not mean every fund has identical criteria; applications are assessed against each award. Applicants need a WDT student ID and should draft essays before opening the portal because the system warns that in-progress forms are not saved automatically.

The Spring window opened August 1 and closes October 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time. Each recipient must submit a thank-you letter within two weeks of the award notice before funds are credited to the student account. Build Dakota will open January 1, 2027 for fall and may cover tuition, books, tools, and required expenses, but not living costs.

Before applying, confirm that the cycle and academic program match your circumstances and that the window is still open. Start at the administrator’s link, save the rules, and prepare transcripts, FAFSA information, essays, and recommendations in the requested format. Track the application and reference deadlines separately: some portals close different components on different days. After submitting, monitor email and your dashboard until the file is marked complete. Ask your campus financial-aid office how the award will coordinate with FAFSA, other scholarships, and benefits, and request a written estimate of remaining charges. Do not budget funds that have not been awarded.

To compare this benefit with other options, ask financial aid for an estimate separating tuition, fees, housing, and excluded expenses. Confirm whether it renews annually, what GPA or course load it requires, and whom to contact if the student account does not show the payment. Keep award letters and receipts until the school confirms disbursement.
