About Greater Portland CareerCenter
The Greater Portland CareerCenter serves people looking for a first job as well as those changing occupations or returning to the workforce. It is part of the Maine Department of Labor and offers individual guidance, résumé and interview resources, workshops, training information and employer events at no cost to job seekers. You do not have to be unemployed or receiving benefits to ask for help; eligibility for specific programmes depends on their rules, and veterans and some spouses receive priority in many state-funded programmes.
The office is at 151 Jetport Boulevard, Portland, ME 04102. It is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the phone number is 207-623-7981, the email is CareerCenter.portland@maine.gov, and TTY users can call Maine Relay 711. The site is served by Portland METRO Route 5. To prepare your search at home, create an account with Maine JobLink: you can look for openings, save searches and build a résumé. A Social Security number is not required to open an account, although Maine requires one if you request staff-assisted services.
Before travelling, check the statewide workshop calendar: sessions may cover résumés, interviews or Maine JobLink, and some count toward job-search requirements for certain unemployment claims. Confirm the specific event and keep proof of attendance if you need it. If an offer asks you to pay for an interview, promises a guaranteed job or sends you a cheque to forward money, do not proceed without verifying it with the employer. The centre can help you prepare your search and sort through public options, while each company keeps its own hiring process.
