About GO Gallery

GO Gallery, an online gallery for contemporary Pacific Northwest art

GO Gallery is an online art gallery and traveling print gallery representing Pacific Northwest artists, with a special emphasis on original works on paper. The gallery presents itself as continuing the 28-year legacy of Portland's Guardino Gallery and structures its activity around online exhibitions, pop-up events, and private appointments at Gail Owen Studio in Northeast Portland.

The gallery is directed by Gail Owen. Its catalog brings together artists working in printmaking, painting, sculpture, glass, ceramics, mixed media, and textile arts, though the main focus is hand-pulled prints: etching, mezzotint, woodcut, linocut, lithography, monotype, and other traditional printmaking processes. The gallery states that it does not represent giclée reproductions.

Works on paper and represented artists

The gallery's catalog includes names such as J. Richard Briggs, who works in acrylic on panel and whose paintings seek the depth and luminosity of traditional oils, combining sacred narrative with Pacific Northwest landscapes. Will LaBelle contributes a collection of wheel-thrown ceramic mugs and urns, with a line of one-of-a-kind urns in large and small sizes and the option to commission custom glazes coordinated with the artist.

Greg Pfarr creates large-format copper plate etchings that capture the snow-covered mountains of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska, with a use of intaglio oriented toward depth, atmosphere, and detail. Jessica Hartman creates layered prints that blur the boundary between landscape and abstraction, combining reduction woodblock, linoleum relief, and the fresco-transfer process known as strappo, to capture the atmosphere, light, and memory of place rather than its literal details.

Heather Halpern incorporates new luminous mezzotints alongside two pastels that show another facet of her approach to light, texture, and atmosphere. Maxfield Strauss develops mixed-media constructions with globes that explore geography, cartography, and the physical world, objects that link art, design, and cartography.

The roster of represented artists is completed by names such as Brandon Fernandez, Candace Pratt, Dan Broxon, David Nez, Davis Te Selle, Dennis Anderson, Egor Shokoladov, Erik Ebeling, Evan Burnette, Fran Lee, Gail Owen —with her own section of small-format works—, Gene Flores, Hanna Traynham, Hibiki Miyazaki, Hickory Mertsching, Hui-Yong Kim, Jane Pagliarulo, John Opie, Mar Goman, Margaret Van Patten, Mary LeMieux-Ruibal, Matt Burlingame, Mavis Leahy, Michael Southern, Nanette Wallace, and Nicole Rawlins.

Exhibitions, services, and collaborations

The gallery's activity is organized around curated online exhibitions, traveling pop-up print exhibitions across Oregon, and private appointments for collectors at Gail Owen Studio. In addition, it offers artist representation and online sales, as well as curatorial and exhibition planning services.

GO Gallery states that it is open to collaboration proposals for pop-ups with museums, wineries, cultural organizations, and other galleries. It also shares the context of the works through studio visits with the artists, interviews, and online features, and maintains a section of past exhibitions.
