About NHEC Foundation Scholarships

New Hampshire Electric Cooperative distributes six annual $1,500 scholarships through the NHEC Foundation. One is reserved for a student entering a vocational or technical institution, while the others support undergraduate study. The award is intended for students connected to the cooperative and its community; it is not a statewide grant open to every U.S. student.

For 2027, applicants may be high-school seniors or current undergraduate students who live in New Hampshire and are part of an NHEC member household. They must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited bachelor’s, associate, or certificate program on a full-time basis under the Foundation’s definition. The institution may be in or outside the state. Confirm that the account or household connection can be documented before applying.

The cooperative says applications will resume January 1, 2027; the page does not yet show a closing date, so one should not be guessed. Scholarship checks are presented at the June annual meeting, and recipients must attend in person to receive the award. Prepare academic records, residency evidence, and proof of the member-household link, then confirm whether an essay, recommendation, or extra form is required when the portal opens.

Before applying, confirm that the cycle and academic program match your circumstances and that the window is still open. Start at the administrator’s link, save the rules, and prepare transcripts, FAFSA information, essays, and recommendations in the requested format. Track the application and reference deadlines separately: some portals close different components on different days. After submitting, monitor email and your dashboard until the file is marked complete. Ask your campus financial-aid office how the award will coordinate with FAFSA, other scholarships, and benefits, and request a written estimate of remaining charges. Do not budget funds that have not been awarded.

To compare this benefit with other options, ask financial aid for an estimate separating tuition, fees, housing, and excluded expenses. Confirm whether it renews annually, what GPA or course load it requires, and whom to contact if the student account does not show the payment. Keep award letters and receipts until the school confirms disbursement.
