About Pittsburg Promise Community Scholarship
The City of Pittsburg scholarship is not a universal award for every major: it supports bachelor’s study in STEAM—science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics—for current city residents or eligible dependents of city employees. Students need a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and acceptance to a bachelor’s program in a STEAM major. Current high-school students, graduates, and GED recipients may qualify under the listed rules.
The city offers up to five annual $5,000 awards and reserves at least one for an eligible city-employee dependent, with the remaining awards for residents. Funds apply to tuition for an upcoming term and are paid directly to the institution. Previously paid tuition is not covered, and the award is one-time rather than automatically renewable. Financial documents are not required.
The 2026 application ran January 1 through May 31 and is now closed; the city lists selection in June/July and funds in August. Prepare residency, admission or registration, major, and GPA evidence for the next cycle, and review the English or Spanish guidelines. The published contact is pittsburgpromise@pittsburgca.gov.
Recipients are selected by lottery among eligible applicants, with separate stages for a city-employee dependent and residents; meeting requirements does not guarantee selection. Confirm that your major appears on the STEAM list or request approval if it falls under “other majors.” Wait for the city’s next-cycle announcement rather than assuming 2026 dates will repeat unchanged.
