About Metropolitan Community College — South Omaha Campus
South Omaha Campus is at 2909 Edward Babe Gomez Avenue, near 27th and Q Streets. The college bought the former industrial site in 1975; the campus grew into a 40-acre center for credit and noncredit study, with the Mahoney Building, Connector and specialized training facilities. MCC says this is its largest and most diverse campus by enrollment, which helps explain the mix of general classes, health professions and hands-on career education.
The 100,000-square-foot Automotive Training Center supports automotive technology and related career programs, while the Center for Advanced Manufacturing houses practical instruction in areas such as welding, precision machining, electrical systems, motors and robotics. Health-profession programs and general-education classes also use the campus. Program admission can be selective, and class locations can change; compare the current catalog and schedule before choosing a route or arranging a visit.
For English learners, South Omaha is the key place to know. MCC’s credit ESL classes have four levels across listening and speaking, writing and grammar, and reading and vocabulary; MCC lists these courses at this campus. The Language and Literacy Center in Connector Building, Room 205, provides drop-in help with ESL coursework, reading, vocabulary, conversation and presentations. A separate noncredit adult ESL program is free for eligible learners and uses an information session, assessment and introductory steps before placement.
The Connector Building also houses a Metro transit station, creating a direct bus connection into the campus. MCC’s Pass to Class program offers free transit passes to credit students under current program rules; check Metro’s trip planner for the service that fits your starting point. Student services are listed at this address, and the college map identifies buildings and parking. For a first visit, ask whether your class, ESL session or appointment meets in the Connector, Mahoney or a training center.
South Omaha connects academic and health-profession study with automotive training, advanced manufacturing and the college’s English-language support. Its Connector Building contains a Metro transit station and the Language and Literacy Center.
