About Washington College Grant (WA Grant) — WSAC
The Washington College Grant, also called WA Grant, helps pay for college, career training and some approved education programs. WSAC says a FAFSA or WASFA starts review, and the college sends an offer showing the amount if the student qualifies. There is no identical award for every person: household income, family size, program cost and institution all matter. The grant may cover a full or partial amount and does not have to be repaid.
For 2026–27, WSAC uses income reported on 2024 tax returns. A family of four at or below $83,500 falls within the published full-award income range; partial aid may be available to households with higher earnings, up to the limit in the state table. Those figures vary with family size and do not predict an individual amount before the campus review. The participating-school list matters too: as of 2026–27, private for-profit schools can no longer offer WA Grant.
Students who can file FAFSA should use it to seek federal, state and college aid. WASFA is the route for people who do not file FAFSA and are applying for state aid; do not complete both unless the college tells you to. After filing, make sure the correct school receives the application and monitor email and the portal. If you attend summer courses, ask which aid year covers them. Certain public-benefit programs can connect students with WA Grant, so ask about WCG-Connect if relevant.
A WGU Washington student wrote in September 2026 that the grant had not appeared on the usual schedule; later the student said the school confirmed eligibility and the portal showed a pending award. That is one online institution and one file, not a statewide payment deadline. Ask for the exact status: received, verified, awarded, awaiting credit or disbursed. If the office requests a correction or document, resolve it before treating the absence as a denial.
Read the offer to separate the grant from loans and work-study, and calculate what remains after tuition, fees, supplies, housing and transportation. A maximum chart figure is not unrestricted money for every expense. If you are a senior enrolled in College Bound, ask whether the promise increases WA Grant or how the two programs coordinate; do not assume both maximum figures are added together. WSAC publishes program details and the WA Grant phone line, while the college confirms your award.
Award depends on income, household size, program cost and institution; some families may receive full public-college tuition or partial aid
