Union Square Greenmarket

GrowNYC’s year-round flagship, with a large rotating roster of regional farms, fishers and bakers in central Manhattan.

About Union Square Greenmarket

Union Square Greenmarket occupies the north and west sides of Union Square, with stalls along 17th Street and Union Square West. GrowNYC says the market began in 1976 with a small group of farmers. In peak season its roster can reach 140 regional farmers, fishers and bakers, while the actual vendor mix changes by day and season.

The market runs year-round on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Its official page lists cash, debit and credit, SNAP/EBT, the Farmers Market Nutrition Program, FreshConnect, Health Bucks, Greenmarket Bucks and Healthfirst OTC on select plans. The organizer’s SNAP match gives a $2 Health Buck for each $2 spent in SNAP, up to $10 per day. Use the day-specific vendor map if you are looking for seafood, a particular farm, bread or another seasonal item.

In brief

In peak season the organizer reports up to 140 regional farms, fishers and bakers. Published payment options include cash, debit, credit, SNAP/EBT, FMNP, FreshConnect, Health Bucks, Greenmarket Bucks and select Healthfirst OTC plans.
